State and Local Housing Policy Forum - With Assemblymember Friedman and Councilmember Nick Schultz
A Conversation with Artist Greg Edwards

It is the last day of January, which means tomorrow not only marks the beginning of the season of love but the first day of Black History Month, as well. We could not think of a more perfect union for the month of February given the love the Black community has shown our nation, the state of California, and Los Angeles County even when that love was not returned. We all have a prominent Black person that we love, admire, and respect but we don’t always know their story.

At the same time, those of us who consider ourselves pro-housing advocates know of the history of redlining and its impact, but we may not know what it means to live in those communities. To better highlight this intersection, we’re partnering with a Black artist named Greg Edwards whose art speaks to the #BlackExcellence we all know and love, while also highlighting the implications redlining played in the journey of some of our most prominent Black Americans.

Every day in the month of February we will have a very special post honoring prominent Black Americans and their story. We will also continue to reiterate the call to action here locally to either join a local group or to start one in your community. The time is now to rid ourselves of racism within our built environment.

We hope you enjoy the art and we hope to see you at the auction - save your spot now!
